Talk show hosts at it again...

Sometimes I am amazed at how someone who spends most of their day complaining of a newspaper and TV stations selectively picking their stories can be so good at selectively picking their stories. Let me explain...

Over the past month, talk radio has spent hours upon hours decrying Jim Dwyer for running an advertisement containing quotes from Dan Finley. It seems that a decade ago, when running for County Executive himself, Finley was quoted as saying that no one was more qualified to be the first County Executive as was the County Board Chairman (himself). Flash ahead twelve years and apparently the Dwyer campaign thinks that if it was true back then, it must be true today. Hence, the commercial and the outrage from our conservative talk show hosts that followed.

So why post on old news? Because while the MSM ran the Dwyer campaign into the ground with it's criticism, the Vrakas campaign was doing the same thing. Did you listen to the Vrakas ads on the radio.? (It was tough, there wasn't many of them) How did they end? Paid for by blah blah blah... Jenifer Finley, Chair... and goes on to list the treasurer, as required by law.

Ever hear a candidate list their chair on an advertisement? I haven't, not in twenty years of following elections. So one has to wonder, why the inclusion in this race?

Could it be that Vrakas does this every race? No, checked an old piece of literature, that's not it.

Could Dan be courting the womans' vote? No, he could simply have a female treasurer if that was his intent.

Hmmm...

Maybe... He wanted the name Finley in his advertisements (and on his signs, by the way). But you don't think that could lead people to think the Finley family as a whole was endorsing Mr. Vrakas in this race, do you?

Dan Vrakas was using Jenifer's support in this campaign to lead people to believe that Dan Finley was supporting his candidacy. Jim Dwyer used old quotes from the former County Executive to lead people to believe Dan was supporting him in the race. Both, in my mind, were good, political tactics.

One leads to two weeks of brow-beating and the other is ignored completely. Ooh, how I love that part of the MSM that insists they are not part of the MSM. Instead of an insight check, how about an integrity check?
